    regular insulin (e.g. Humulin R) should be given 30 min before meals

    rapid-acting insulin analogues (e.g. Novorapid® or Humalog®) should ideally be given 5-15 min before meals, but in pts with unpredictable eating patterns, can be administered after meals without significant worsening of glycemic control

   glargine (Lantus®) or detemir (Levemir®) is usually administered at bedtime, but can be administered anytime of day as long as it is consistent every day
